Why do you choose to be self-employed?
I am the oldest of 6 children. Entrepreneurship came to me at an early age in the form of lemonade and cookie stands, plays written and directed by me, and performed in our front yard, where I charged 5 cents. I have started and led many businesses alone and with my husband, Thom. We always joke that we are not good employees anyway! Making an impact in the world has always driven my decision to be a business owner. Small business is the heartbeat of our country. Helping people start and run successful businesses creates abundance and opportunity for a family, a city, a community, and a country.
What does success mean to you?
I believe that success is the authentic pursuit of my purpose in the world. This is being the best wife, mom, sister, friend, business colleague, and philanthropist I can be. Success means that when I lay my head on my pillow at night, I can say that I really did, “Love Well by Doing Good”. I believe that success is an inside day-by-day job.
What quotation inspires you and motivates you to be yourself and do what you love?
The quote that inspires me every day is from Matthew 22:37-39
37 ‘Love the Lord your God with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, and with every thought that is within you.’ 38 This is the great and supreme commandment. 39 And the second is like it in importance: ‘You must love your friend in the same way you love yourself.’
If I can love God and love myself, I can be fully present to love others well. This is the foundation of my message to "Love Well by Doing Good.” Love is not just a feeling; it is a verb, action-oriented, and the greatest thing we can do to change the world for good.
Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently when you were first starting out?
Knowing what I know now, I would have tried more things, failed at more things, and would have been less concerned about what others thought.
Succeeding at a high level means I must try more things, take more risks, dream bigger and bigger, and involve more people.
I do not believe in living in regret. Every mistake and failure has been my teacher. Every experience is just a "seminar"!
If you were given $10 million, would you run your business any differently? How so?
Yes! It would allow me to expand my business internationally at a much faster rate.
I am inspired to create a “Love Well by Doing Good” movement worldwide. Those kinds of resources would allow me to expand my coaching and podcast to more people everywhere.
I believe that a great business can fund a great life. Part of a great life for me is being able to provide resources to provide clean water in this country and around the world, put an end to human trafficking, to help my own community, and to work with The Crucible Project, to bring hope and healing to people everywhere.
My husband Thom and I are in the process of helping to fund these organizations currently and more resources would allow me to impact more people, more often.
What’s your favorite thing to come home to after a long day at work?
My favorite things to come home to after work is first, my husband Thom, my German Shepherd/Husky, named Nala, and my two horses, Lady Grace and Camella Java.
My family is my greatest joy and I love spending time with my children, grandchildren, and my great-grandchild!
Living on Sanctuary Ranch gives me a place of peace, to relax and to recharge.
