OWNER, DOUGH DREAMERY
What's your favorite thing about what you do?
Bringing joy to others. Seeing the look on people's faces when they try our cookie dough and hearing from people how much they love our products.
How have your perceptions of life changed as you've gotten older?
I turned 50 a month after opening Dough Dreamery. I celebrated with a fun photo shoot that included a red velvet smash cake. The biggest life shift as I've gotten older is realizing how much I don't know. When I was young, I thought I knew everything. These days I try and surround myself with people smarter than me and I'm always learning.
What is one piece of advice you'd give your pre-career 20 something self?
Don't try to do it all on your own. Ask for help. There's an old adage that says if you want something done right, do it yourself. It may be true, but it's not sustainable. Success comes from helping others and having others help you.
What advice would you give to yourself when you were a young working mother?
Whatever you are doing, be 100% present. It's ok to work and be a mom. Just don't do both at the same time. What I mean is, when you are at work, be at work. Commit 100% to being there. When you are at home with your kids, be 100% focused on that. Don't think about work when you're at home. Quality time with your kids is more important than quantity. They grow up so quickly and you will never get that time back.
If you have a bucket list, what's your favorite thing you've checked off?
My favorite thing I've checked off my bucket list so far was an Alaskan cruise. My husband and I went for our 25th wedding anniversary and it was the most amazing trip I've taken so far in my life.
What gets you up in the morning?
The opportunities that each new day presents... whether it's being of service to someone, bringing a smile to someone, meeting someone new, or the endless other possibilities available.
What have you learned about leadership that doesn't get taught in schools?
That leadership is truly about service and inspiration, not about how many letters are after your name or how much you think you know.
And finally, do you have a favorite quote?
"It is not happy people that are grateful; it is grateful people who are happy" --Invajy
