REAL ESTATE BROKER
What's your favorite thing about what you do?
There can be a lot of unexpected bumps in the road during a real estate transaction that can be alarming and overwhelming and I find that I offer my clients the greatest value and comfort when I help them slow things down, use a little practical magic, and turn those crazy situations into reasons to celebrate! Nothing is unsolvable, and my favorite thing about being an agent is that I get to wear a hundred different hats and can approach a problem from as many different angles as it takes to find the best possible solution.
In the past, what have been your biggest obstacles in business? What helped you overcome those obstacles?
Too often in my past, I held myself back because I thought that in order to provide the level of service I wanted to be known for, I needed to know EVERYTHING! I wasted so much time not helping people because I was afraid of not being 'enough'. Over the years though, I've learned that I don't need to do everything alone and I've built an incredible network of professionals I wholeheartedly trust. I finally do have all the answers - they are all only a quick phone call away.
What is your favorite trait about yourself?
I'm able to go with the flow - no matter how fast or slow the river is moving. For someone who loves adventure and doesn't always plan everything out, this is both my favorite quality and an essential one.
Are there any myths you'd like to bust about your profession?
I love when I get calls from people who want to start a career in real estate but it breaks my heart when I have to be the one to add a little reality to their expectations about what a career in this field actually entails. They often explain that their interest in real estate is tied to a desire for a flexible schedule, a big check, and they love the real estate shows on TV (facepalm). I usually start off by offering that there are as many ways to work this job as there are people in it and we all do it just a little differently. Here's my reality though: 1. My nights and weekends belong to my clients and I'm constantly apologizing for canceling on friends and family last minute because I need to show a property. 2. The commission lifestyle can be lucrative, but that means you are 100% responsible when you are broke and your wallet doesn't care how good your excuses were for not working harder and prioritizing better. 3. The shows are fun and entertaining and can even be inspiring but they are anything but realistic. Most of the time I identify more with the following titles than I do 'agent': marriage counselor, taxi driver, cleaning lady, receptionist, mediator, socialite, and professional coffee taster. If those jobs sound fun (and I think they are), come join the party!
What's your superpower?
There is nothing I love more than taking chaos and putting it into order; I love solving problems and creating creative, imaginative solutions.
